As part of efforts to actualize the “Edo Master Plan” of the Governor Godwin Obaseki led-administration to rid the State of illegal structures and to make the environment habitable to the people, the Edo State Government has taken its operation show your building plan to DEROJ HOTEL and served a Notice to stop construction.

The Hon Commissioner, Ministry of Physical Planning, Housing, Urban and Regional Development, Mrs. Isoken Omo, represented by the Director of Development Control and Enforcement, Mr. Henry Enabulele, visited the Deroj Hotel, which is situated at Ogbeson Quarters, Agbor express way in Benin City.

She expressed dismay regarding the ongoing construction of a story building attached to a swimming pool and intending to also serve as a bar house as it is grossly encroaching on the right of way of one Okorie Street and Adioral Close.

She stated that the building did not meet the minimum acceptable standard for such a development, which is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated, and she advised that the structure be removed from the site plan design and a new site plan be re-submitted to the Ministry.

According to her, it is in their best interest and safety to discontinue all building operations, remove the illegal structure, which comprises a POOL, BAR and INDOOR LOUNGE and reinstate the land to its original building plan.

She further indicated that, disregarding the directives to remove the unapproved structure, the Ministry of Physical Planning, Housing, Urban and Regional Development will, after seven days of the served notice proceed to enforce the provisions of the Extant Town Planning Laws of Edo State without delay and the cost of such action will be recovered within the provisions of the law and the premises shall be sealed.

Extensive warning of tampering with the seal placed on the unapproved building was given, saying that is unlawful and an offence.

The Management of the Hotel however, expressed their readiness to abide by the State rules on building constructions.
