The Speaker Edo State House of Assembly , Rt Hon Marcus Onobun has commended teachers in the state in their genuine efforts in ensuring an all-round development of school children in the state through the Edo Best initiative of the Governor.Godwin Obaseki led administration .
He made the disclosure on the occasion of the world teachers’ day in the state.
The 2022 commemoration has its theme “Transformation of education begins with the teacher”.
In his remarks in a press statement signed by Mrs. Ivy Adodo Ebojele, Chief Press Secretary to the speaker and made available to the Nigerian Observer, the Speaker said that teachers were critically instrumental and involved in the upbringing of the many children in their care.
He stated that children spent more of their time away from homes in schools, and as such it takes a skillful and well trained teacher to bridge the gap in instilling sound educational teachings, and good morals in these children .
Rt.Hon Marcus Onobun also noted that the theme of this year’s celebration coincided with Edo state Government’s plan for the Education sector reforms and transformation of teachers, with their training and retraining under the Edo Best agenda which is specifically designed by the state government to bridge the gap in the development of the education sector in the state.
Mr Speaker opined that teachers are also important in nation building; which is achieved when pupils are nurtured in the right direction by inculcating proper and ethical value systems in them .
“Through their tenacity, compassion and selflessness, teachers have directed us in the right path by moulding our character and ensuring children become great leaders as they progress in life.
“Happy teachers day, may your labour and sacrifices for the well being of your pupils and students not be forgotten” he added.
