….Shaibu says action is novel, worthy of emulation

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has assured citizens and residents of the State that the fight against insecurity will be sustained by the present administration in order to protect lives and property.

The Deputy Governor gave the assurance when he received in audience a delegation of Afemai World Congress lncorporated, AWC, at the Government House, Benin City.

The Congress, as part of contributing its quota towards the development of Edo State presented a cheque for the sum of #12m to the State Government to combat insecurity and criminality in the State. The delegation was led to the Government House by it’s president, Mrs Fatima Dankano.

Shaibu, who received the cheque on behalf of Edo State Government, expressed delight at the gesture. While appreciating members of the Congress, he described their support as ” an act of true sons and daughters of the soil”. The Deputy Governor said the gesture was novel in the state, calling on similar organisations to emulate the AWC. ” I believe this is a better way of carrying Government along in whatever assistance you want to give your people. What we have been seeing was that, we are only invited to commission or to distribute items meant for our people. By this action, government will now march your donation, something like counterpart funding to properly equip the security outfit ”

He assured the Afemai World Congress that government will judiciously utilize the money for the purpose it was meant.

According to him,”what you have done is a new trajectory to how people can partner with government for the general good of the people.”

“Congratulations to you for this pace setting; accept our assurances that as far as this government is concerned, we will add to this #12m to ensure the actualization of something you would be proud of”.

“I want to encourage you on synergy more in driving Afemai forward and ensure more development in the land”.

“For the past six years, our government has been tackling insecurity and has deployed everything to make it happen. We appreciate this gesture from Afemai in the diaspora”.

“Relatively, Edo remains the most peaceful State in the South-South sub region of Nigeria but for us, we are not there yet, as there are still lots of things to be done”.

” We still have puckets of attacks and we thank God these have been brought to a minimal level. The issue of kidnapping is still what we are grapling with but you have my assurance that Edo is becoming too hot for them with our new security architecture”.

“The bush combing we introduced is still ongoing and we are intensifying efforts in combing our forest to further push these criminals away. Government is fully in control of the forest now as we speak; I believe this is good news for us all”.

“Thank you for the partnership and be rest assured that we will brief you on what your money is used for as part of our accountability processes”, Shaibu added.
