Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt.Hon.Comrade Philip Shaibu, Tuesday received management staff of the Nigeria Postal lnstitute, NPI, Egor led by the new Director, Mrs. Salome lrowa at the Government House, Benin City.
The Deputy Governor expressed optimism that the coming of the new Director will not only further cement the relationship between NIPOST and the State Government but create a better atmosphere for both parties towards achieving good governance.
According to Shaibu,”we have had a lot of collaboration in different areas in recent past like the regulation and supervision of courier services in our state.That relationship led to the restoration of peace and the synergy from both sides”.
“We in Edo believe that government is one at all levels and the purpose of government is to coordinate activities in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. So, the people will know that there are rules and regulations governing all of us”.
“It is interesting to know that NIPOST has grown from being analogue to a digital service delivery agency. We are glad about that and we will continue with our partnership and collaboration”.
“Edo has become a tourist center for sports but unfortunately, hospitality business is still very low in terms of accommodation to house large number of contingents and spectators for major sporting activity”.
” Hotels having up to 75 rooms are very few in Benin City. This few hotels can not accommodate the traffic we have created in sports.”
“We want the private sectors to take opportunity of this gap and invest in the hospitality business in Edo State”, Shaibu noted.
In her remarks, Director, Nigeria Postal lnstitute, Egor – Benin City, Mrs. Salome Irowa appreciated the Deputy Governor for granting them the audience.
” Your Excellency, I am here today to intimate you of my posting to Edo as the new Director of the Nigeria Postal lnstitute, knowing well that government is the final authority any where”.
“I am aware of the already existing cordial relationship between NIPOST and the present administration”.
“It has been a long time relationship but we have never had it this good. The relationship has led to the construction of the road leading to the Institute in Egor”.
“Edo State has witnessed developmental strides under the excellent leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki and Philip Shaibu; from hosting the National Sports Festival to winning lots of laurels in different sporting activities, thereby holding her pride of place as the sports destination in Nigeria”.
“Your quest for excellence can be boldly seen in the upgrade of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium which can rival any sports facility in the world. We are proud to be associated with this success stories”.
“The NIPOST Sports Festival which was billed to hold in Benin is now holding in Ibadan. Edo lost the hosting right as a result of the poor state of our hostel facilities in our Institute in Egor. We wish to appeal to your good offices that we are still open and willing to partner with your administration in terms of moral and financial support for the proposed renovation of our hostels which may eventually host subsequent sports festivals in future”.
“We know how passionate and supportive you are in sporting activities.We are also appealing to you for financial and moral support to enable our 60 athletes contingent attend the NIPOST sports festival and win in Ibadan as customary with Edo State”,Mrs. Salome added.
