Edo State Government has issued the long-anticipated Certificate Of Right Of Use permit to farm settlers from Ekpoma, Iguoriakhi and Sobe community.

The Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Stephen Idenhenre who disclosed  this  said the long-anticipated Certificate Of Right Of Use permit to farm settlers from Ekpoma, Iguoriakhi and Sobe community is not for sale.

“You recall how this journey started. This struggle lingered in court for several years till we got to this point . The reason you are in the settlement is to guarantee food security. There are many young men and women who are interested in the farm settlement but as a responsible government, we kept to our promise.

“This certificate is renewable annually and the government requires your commitment towards the certificate annual subscription fee of 10,000 Naira and if you default, you can’t blame the Government,” he noted.

According to him, the issuance of the certificate is to enable the Farm settlers to legally cultivate farm lands allocated to them without fear of encroachment by land grabbers as well as ensuring a sustainable food supply in the state

The dialogue on the unrest  of farm settlements which started over 24 years ago  was put to an halt by the Governor Obaseki-led administration on Thursday ,27th of October 2022.
