Asaba- The 21st National Sports Festival currently going on in Asaba, Delta State has suffered it’s first casualty as lmo boxer, lgbuoargo Chucks collapsed and died after finishing a boxing bout on Tuesday.
Igbouargo Chucks took on Prince Gaby Amagor of Delta State in the 86kg bout at an events centre at Asaba, venue of the boxing event of the festival.
This Reporter reliably gathered that the now deceased boxer was said to be walking out of the boxing hall after lossing the match to his opponent when he suddenly collapsed.
It was further learnt that Medics at the venue immediately placed him on oxygen to stabilise him, but unfortunately he gave up the ghost before getting to the hospital.
” He was well and healthy and didn’t” show any sign of distress” said Akinyele Durotoye,who is Nigeria Boxing Federation Secretary General.
Continuing the Sec- Gen said his coach was with him, but stepped out to get some equipptment not knowing the boxer was in danger.
” It’s one of those tragedies we see at sports venues with Athletes having underlying health conditions. It’s unfortunate we lost him, but his death has nothing to do with the boxing events” Durotoye hinted.
