Asaba- As the on- going 21st National Sports Festival, tagged ” Delta 2022″, entered the sixth day on Tuesday, the President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation ( NWF), Dr lbrahim Abdul has charged the lifters to stay away from the use of drugs.

Dr Abdul who spoke in preparedness of the weightlifting event which commenced on Sunday said the federation had zero tolerance for use of performance- enhancing substance and enjoined the Athletes to compete clean and win neat and clean.

He said there is no doubt that the Athletes will not do their best considering the state-of-the-art facilities the host Delta government had put in place to make the festival a huge success.

Meanwhile, Delta State Governor, Dr lfeanyi Okowa has challenged Athletes competing for honour at the 21st National sports festerval to see the meet as an opportunity to break the 33-year-old record set by the now chairman Edo State Sports Commission, Mr Yuseuf Alli in 1989.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, Dr Okowa said the Yussuf Alli’s personal best of 8.27 metres which he set in the long jump event in 1989 during the African Athletics Championship in Lagos still stands as Nigeria’ s record in that event.

According to the Governor, ” l want you as an Athletes to uphold the values of stenght, hard work and dedication here in Delta 2022 because you are the best, your states cherish you, run fast to achieve your dreams”.
