…as PUWOV apprehends one-way driver in Benin

The Edo State Government has urged motorists to obey traffic rules in order to avert accidents, warning on the dangers of over speeding and reckless driving, especially during the Yuletide.

The warning came following the arrest of another commercial driver who was apprehended by officials of the Edo State Public Works Volunteers (PUWOV) for driving against the traffic (one-way) in the Benin metropolis.

The move is part of a revved up campaign against traffic offenders in the metropolis.
The Edo PUWOV Coordinator, Mukhtar Yusuf-Osagie, briefing journalists in Benin City, said the new arrest has raised to four, the total of persons that have been apprehended since the kick-off of the exercise’ He added that any motorist caught flouting the state’s traffic laws will be apprehended and duly prosecuted in accordance with the state’s extant laws.

Yusuf-Osagie said, “Officials of Edo PUWOV have apprehended another commercial bus driver with vehicle registration number EDE 579 XA in the Benin metropolis for driving against traffic. The vehicle, a white Vanett Bus has been impounded, while the driver has been arraigned before a mobile court and will face prosecution in accordance with the state’s extant laws.”

Yusuf-Osagie noted, “As we go into the festive season, we urge motorists to shun nefarious acts, including driving against traffic, over speeding, wrong overtaking, among others that could endanger their lives and those of others.

“While the government steps up efforts to ensure the free flow of traffic and safety on our roads during and after the yuletide, we are calling on all road users and motorists to report drivers who flout traffic laws and drive against traffic (one-way).
