Officials of the Edo State Public Works Volunteers (PUWOV) have apprehended another commercial bus driver in the Benin metropolis for driving against traffic (one-way).

The Edo State Public Works Volunteers (PUWOV) Coordinator, Mukhtar Yusuf-Osagie, while briefing journalists in Benin City at the weekend, said the government has stepped up enforcement to clampdown on all unruly motorists and will ensure that they are made to face the full wrath of the law.

He said the new campaign against one-way driving in the state is aimed at restoring sanity and order on roads in the Benin metropolis, vowing to arrest and prosecute any motorist who violates the state’s traffic laws.

Yusuf-Osagie said, “Officials of PUWOV have apprehended another commercial bus driver in the Benin metropolis who was driving against traffic, disregarding the state’s traffic laws and posing a serious threat to the lives of other road users.

Describing as worrisome the frequent disregard for traffic rules and regulations by motorists in the state, the PUWOV Coordinator noted, “While the government steps up efforts to ensure the free flow of traffic and ensure safety on our roads, we call on all motorists, including commercial bus drivers and private car owners to desist henceforth from flouting the state’s traffic laws and driving against traffic (one-way)

“We also solicit for the collaboration of all road users and motorists in the state and urge them to report drivers who flout traffic laws and drive against the traffic (one-way).
