Engr. Osikhena Omoh Ojior, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Bridges, who announced this in a statement, said these areas where remediation work will be carried out are highly trafficked junctions and called for the cooperation of residents.

“This is to inform the general public that the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Godwin Enogheghase Obaseki has graciously approved 42 roads for spot improvement and overlay of selected flashpoints and highly trafficked junctions within the Benin City metropolis. This exercise covers areas that have failures or potholes that hamper free movement of traffic leading to congestion,” Ojior said in the statement on Thursday.

“The maintenance works will be carried out within the two months starting from 23rd January 2023,” he said.

What the public should do

The Permanent Secretary advised motorists and other road users who ply the affected areas to please find alternative routes.

This is because the proposed road works, which will be carried out during the day and night, may lead to an increase in traffic congestion on the affected roads.

“We therefore solicit for the general public’s cooperation and appeal to the general public to kindly bear with us, for the inconveniences this may cause them during this period,” Ojior said.

“We assure the general public of speedy execution in the best interest of the public and ease of traffic flow on our roads,” he said.
