Security forces have rescued Mrs. Precious Aigbonoga, the President of Igueben Area Customary Court, kidnapped last Monday.
Aigbonoga was abducted in the vicinity of Ugoneki town in Uhunwmande Local Government Area of Edo State on Monday, January 9, 2023.
Her rescue was effected Thursday, January 12, 2023.
The Public Relations Officer for Edo State Police Command, Superintendent of Police, Chidi Nwabuzor said the judge was rescued by the military and police at a spot called Scorpion Hill, inside the forest where she was held captive.
Nwabuzor said a policeman lost his life during the rescue operation.
The Judge was said to have also sustained bullet wounds during the gun battle and is receiving medical attention in an undisclosed hospital.
The Benin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary Festus Usiobafo commended the security agencies for the rescue.
The association commiserated with the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dankwara on the loss of his gallant officer.
It was unclear as at the time of filing this report, whether a former member of the Edo State House of Assembly, Festus Edughele, who was abducted same day as the judge but at a different location , had regained his freedom.
