…as 2023 cricket season kicks off in Edo

It was a great relief at the weekend at the Edo State Camp of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Ohogua in Ovia North East Local Government area of the state, as the President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), led a delegation of his officials to donate items worth millions of naira to the IDPs.

The gesture heralded the 2023 Edo State Cricket League Season that will span over 10 weeks.

The League which got underway on Saturday in Benin City, saw Integrity Force CC losing to Invictus CC in the opening match by a score of 101 runs.

No Limit CC who did battle with the U-17 CC later in the day lost by 4 wickets.

Speaking to sports writers, NCF President, Uyi Akpata, who also doubles as Chairman, Edo State Cricket Association, said the growth of Cricket in Edo has resulted in more players participating this season than the previous season.

He revealed that several players of the national team are expected to participate in this year’s Edo state Cricket League season.
