is out of the inaugural United Cup after the United States won 4-1 in their City Final in Sydney. British number two Dan Evans was beaten 3-6 7-5 6-3 by Frances Tiafoe, securing the US a place in the semi-finals, BBC reports.
Earlier, Cameron Norrie won 6-4 5-7, 6-4 against Taylor Fritz, after Great Britain team-mate Katie Swan had lost 2-6 6-3 6-4 to Madison Keys.
In another match, Harriet Dart was beaten 6-2 6-0 by world number three Jessica Pegula.
Despite the US taking an unassailable lead, the mixed doubles rubber was still played with Dart and Evans falling to a 6-4 6-4 defeat by Pegula and Fritz at the Ken Rosewall Arena.
The Sydney City Final is one of three City Finals taking place across Australia, which act as a play-off for the semi-finals.
The winners in Sydney, Perth and Brisbane will progress, as will the runners-up with the best record – but this will not be Great Britain.
Captained by Tim Henman, Great Britain had been the surprise package at the inaugural mixed team United Cup, having upset Australia and Rafael Nadal’s Spain in the group stage.
However, of the six teams who reached the City Finals, Great Britain possessed the joint worst match win-loss record of the group stage, and the lowest set win percentage.
Elsewhere, Jack Draper is out of the Adelaide International after being beaten in straight sets by Karen Khachanov. The eighth seed won 6-4 6-2 and will play third seed and fellow Russian Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-finals.
