BENIN CITY- THE Resident Commissioner of  Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Edo State, Mr.Obo Effanga, has revealed that a total number of 4,519 polling Units have been designated for voters in the state during the forthcoming general elections.

It would be recalled that prio to the development, 2,627 polling units were used for voting during the 2020 governorship election in the state.

Effanga who made the disclosure on Friday during a press briefing in Benin City,  the Edo State Capital, said that the conversion of former voting points into polling units gave rise to the voting units in the state.

He explained that the idea to convert the former Voting Points to Polling Units was to address the issue of large population in some units, and revealed that 850 polling units were affected.

Speaking on the issue of recent migration of voters from their original polling units to a nearby units, the state Resident Commissioner,  assured that the commission has put measures in place so as to the assist voters in locating their polling units during the election.

He stated further that voters in the state can also check their Polling Units online by logging onto www.voters.inecnigeria.org, just as he maintained that names and voting units of voters would be displayed at INEC local government offices in Edo before the election.

While noting that there will be more than one BVAS machines in large polling units which are 96 in numbers in order to accelerate accreditation of voters, the Edo INEC Commissioner said that there would be one BVAS machine each in smaller units.

Effanga informed that a total of 2,501,081 voters had since 2011 till date registered with commission in the state, out of which 1,996,088 have collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), leaving 504,999 PVCs yet to be collected.

He,  however, assured that the commission is ready for the first conduct of the general elections, starting with the February 25 Presidential cum National Assembly elections.  .
