The Court of Appeal has notified the candidacy of Mohammed Abacha, son of Nigeria’s former head of state, Sani Abacha, as the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State.

The Appeal Court sitting in Kano, in a unanimous judgement on Friday, said Abacha had no locus standi to challenge the primary election that produced Wali since he never participated in the exercise.

The three-man panel led by Usman Musale held that Sadiq Wali was the authentic candidate of the PDP in the forthcoming governorship election.

Abacha had dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to High Court for recognising Wali as candidate of the party after parallel primaries produce him and Wali as separate candidates for the same position.

Subsequently, the Federal High Court in Kano confirmed Abacha as the rightful governorship candidate, nullifying the primary that produced Wali.

The Appeal Court on Friday set aside the High Court’s judgement and ordered that Wali be recognised as the valid governorship candidate.
