The outcomes of the presidential and national assembly elections held on 25 February 2023 have shown the list of governors who lost their elections into the Nigerian Senate.

Samuel Ortom of Benue State contested under the Peoples Democratic Party to represent Benue North-West senatorial district. According to the returning officer, Rufus Shaa’ato, Governor Ortom received 106,882 votes to be defeated by Titus Zam of the All Progressives Congress who got 143,151 votes.

Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, All Progressives Congress, having polled 92,389 votes, lost his senatorial election to former governor of the state, Senator Adamu Aliero of Peoples Democratic Party who scored 126,588 votes.
Governor Solomon Lalong of Plateau State is the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC). In spite of this and as a sitting governor, he failed to clinch the ticket for the Plateau South senatorial district. He polled 91,674 votes to be defeated by Rtd AVM Bali Ninkap Napoleon of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who received 148,844 votes to win the senatorial ticket.

Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State failed to clinch the ticket to represent Taraba South senatorial district. He polled 45,708 votes to be defeated by David Jimkuta of All Progressives Congress who received 84,415 votes.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State lost the Enugu North senatorial seat to Okechukwu Eze of Labour Party. Governor Ugwuanyi scored 46,948 votes as against 104,948 votes by Okechukwu Ezea when the results were announced on Monday.

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State also failed to win the Cross River North senatorial seat. He polled 56,595 votes in contrast to 76,145 votes scored by Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe of Peoples Democratic Party.

Governors that won

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State won the Ebonyi South senatorial district as he polled 28,378 votes to defeat Linus Okorie of Labour Party who scored 25,496 votes.

Governor Sani Bello of Niger State, All Progressives Congress, will be at the Senate in the next dispensation. He polled 100,197 votes to win the Niger North senatorial district. His challenger, Shehu Muhammad Abdullahi of Peoples Democratic Party, received 88,153 votes.
