Ibom Air, an airline owned by the Government of Akwa Ibom State in south-south geopolitical zone in the country, has been honoured as the most reliable airline in the country. The conferment of the award took place at the 12th Nigerian Aviation (NIGAV) Awards.

Ibom Air was set up in 2019 by the Government of Akwa Ibom State, and has grown by leaps and bounds, setting the record as one of the efficiently managed airlines in the country. It operates from the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, the state capital, connecting air travelers from Uyo to Abuja, Calabar, Enugu, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Yenagoa.

In 2022, Ibom Air expanded its capacity when the Akwa Ibom State Government sponsored a training programme through which indigenes were trained as pilots and aircraft engineers with a view to boosting the workforce of the state’s aviation sector.

In January 2022, out of 1,027 total flights operated by Ibom Air, 825 flights departed on time, recording an on-time performance of 80 percent. It recorded an on-time performance of 83 percent in February; 84 percent in March; 83 percent in April; 79 percent in June, and 68 percent in July.

On-time performance increased to 78 percent in August; 80 percent in September; 87 percent in October; 80 percent in November, but decreased to 67 percent in December 2022, which brought the average on-time performance to 72 percent in 2022.
