Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party has won the presidential election in Edo State, polling 331,163 votes to defeat his closest rival Bola Ahmed Tinubu of All Progressives Congress who scored 144,473 votes. Atiku Abubakar of the People Democratic Party garnered 89,308 votes to come third.
Announcing the result this evening, the returning officer for Edo State, Professor Nyaudoh Ndeayo, stated that Obi won in all the seven local government areas in Edo south senatorial district; won all the five local government areas in Edo central but failed to win in any of six local government areas in Edo north, all of which were won by the All Progressives Congress.
The votes polled by Peter Obi represented 58.6 percent of the total votes cast while Tinubu scored 25.6 percent of the total votes cast. And having polled 89,308 votes to occupy the third position, Atiku Abubakar accounted for 15.6 percent of the total votes cast.
The eleven local government areas of the state where Obi won are Igueben, Easn Central, Esan North East, Egor, Esan South East, Esan West and Uhunmwonde and Orhiomwon. Others are Ovia South, Oredo and Ikpoba Okha.
The local government areas that Tinubu won include Owan West, Owan East, Akoko Edo, Etsako, Etsako West and Etsako East. Atiku Abubakar of PDP failed to win any local government area.
