Warri – Labour Party’s candidate in last Saturday’s Presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi, may be coasting to victory as he is leading with high margin from election results so far announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Delta State.
Out of the 16 local government councils’ results released on Monday by the electoral body, Peter Obi has won 11 LGAs of the state.
Labour Party won all the LGAs in Delta North Senatorial District except Ika North East where Governor Ifeanyi Okowa hails from.
The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, also lost his bid to return to the House after he was defeated by the candidate of the Labour Party, Ngozi Okolie.
Elumelu is the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the election and was seeking re-election to the Green Chamber for the third time.
Ngozi Okolie, who is a seemingly unknown political underdog, defeated Elumelu in the results collated from the four councils that make up the constituency in Saturday’s National Assembly election.
Labour Party’s Okolie polled 53,879 votes to defeat the PDP candidate who scored 33,466 votes in the election.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Kenneth Abaraibe, announced the result at the INEC collation centre in Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area of the state
Abaraibe declared Okolie as the winner of the election having polled the highest votes in the constituency.
