Assistant Inspector-General of Police on Election Duty in Edo state, AIG Ede Ayuba, has assured that the police is fully prepared to ensure adequate security in Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly election in the state.
AIG Ede Ayuba, gave the assurance while addressing officers during the inter-agencies meeting on Wednesday in Benin City.
He said the country has entrusted the police with the security of the election and that they could not afford to fail to deliver on the assignment.
Ayuba said: “Election is every four years. We have received training to ensure that the election is not interrupted. We must work with other security agencies to ensure a peaceful election.
“Nigeria is our fatherland and we shall not allow it to go down and we are here to participate in the election by protecting the ballot papers and boxes as well as the conduct of the election.”
He charged the officers to remain unprovoked, as some people who know that they can’t win election, would want to create crisis.
“No matter how they provoke us, we should exercise restraint and ensure that there is free and fair election in the state”, he charged.
Meanwhile , the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, Directorate of State Service, Nigeria Customs, and Federal Road Safety Commission, are expected to provide security for both the voters and staff of the electoral umpire in the state during the forthcoming elections.
