The All Progressives Congress (APC) is leading other political parties in the race to control Nigeria’s National Assembly during the next administration, which will be the 10th assembly when inaugurated.
according to the results announced thus far, APC has won 51 senatorial seats out of the 109 seats up for grabs. This amounts to 47 percent of the total seats available. However, the party still needs more seats to enjoy two-thirds majority of the senate wing of the national assembly.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won 27 senatorial seats so far while the Labour Party (LP) has six senatorial seats to its credit.
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) have won two seats each while the Young People’s Party (YPP) has just one senatorial seat.
In Edo State, the three senatorial seats are shared between the APC and LP. Adams Oshiomhole of APC, and a former national chairman of the party, won the Edo North senatorial districts while Monday Okpebholo of APC won the Edo Central Senatorial district. Neda Imasuen of Labour Party won the Edo South Senatorial District.
The APC won the three senatorial seats in Lagos, Ogun, Katsina, Oyo, Kwara, Ondo, among others.
The candidates that won the three senatorial seats in Lagos State are Dr Idiat Adebule, a former deputy governor of the state; Senator Tokunbo Abiru, and Lagos Deputy Speaker, Hon. Wasiu Eshinlokun, representing Lagos West, Lagos East, and Lagos Central senatorial districts.
In Ogun State, the candidates that won are the former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel(Ogun East), Solomon Olamilekan Yayi(Ogun West), and Shuaib Afolabi Salis(Ogun Central), former chief of staff to Governor Dapo Abiodun.
APC also won two seats in Jigawa as PDP clinched one of the senatorial seats. But in Osun State, the PDP won all the three senatorial seats.
In Delta State, APC won two senatorial seats. Thomas Joel-Onowakpo of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), and a former chairman of Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, won the Delta South senatorial district. Ede Dafinone of APC won the Delta Central Senatorial District. The candidate of PDP, Chinedu Nwoko won the Delta North senatorial district.
Both the APC and PDP hotly contested for senatorial seats in the other states in north central, north west, and north east.
