The vice chancellor, Edo State University Uzairue, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor has said that the university is planning to open up to new programmes such as pharmacy and post graduate programmes in other areas to compliment what it already has on ground in the university.

The vice chancellor stated this during the 7th Founder’s Day ceremony of the university and commended the state governor, Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Com. Philip Shaibu for their continuous support for the university and for creating enabling environment for the university to strive.

The VC also thanked the guest lecturer, Gen. Lucky Irabor for accepting to deliver this year’s Founder’s Day lecture of the university titled “National Defence Policy and Transitional Justice Approach In The War Against Insurgency In Nigeria” and for finding time to come down.

He however requested him to take a tour of the university saying that the beauty of the university is not just the architectural masterpiece, but in the content and facilities available for teaching and research.

“Over the years, we have had the opportunity to invite Nigerians who occupied high positions in the society to speak to the university community on the achievements and on how they have contributed their quota to the development of Nigeria and humanity”, adding that over the years the lectures have taken us through the paradox inherent in the administration of diverse socio-political disposition in Nigeria and how the country can make a better place”.

Prof. Aluyor said that the lectures over the years have gradually shaped the outlook of the Edo State University Uzairue Founder’s Day ceremony where both students and parents look forward to the lecture where important issues on how Nigeria can be harness into a country of our collective dreams are delivered.

He said these achievements were made possible by the state government that established the university in 2016 with the mandate to rival the best universities in the world and also provide level playground for sound scholarship for national development and this indeed the core principles for the Founders Day ceremony.

According to him, “Edo State University Uzairue since inception has been committed to the pursuit of world class goals in teaching, learning and research which are why we are proud of our products”.

“Some of our graduates have competed and secured funding for post graduate in foreign universities and national scholarship awards,” he added.

He further stated that last year, some of the lecturers and researchers were listed among the first 500 researchers in Nigeria while the nursing and medical laboratory students recorded 100% success in their council’s exams.

He said these have made the university continue to stand out among Nigerian public universities saying that the management is proud for the success recorded in one of the flagship programmes, the MBBS programme as the university was able to graduate her pioneer medical students in a record time of 6years and 2 weeks.

This set of medical doctors will be graduating in the first week of November adding that the students took part of the MBBS exams and passed with flying colours. .

The VC particularly thanked the governor for the upgrade of the general hospital Auchi to Edo State University Uzairue Teaching Hospital which he said contributed to the full accreditation of the MBBS programme of the university by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

He further reiterated that Edo State University Uzairue has become the first choice among the comity of state universities in Nigeria.
“We want to assure the university community that the university will continue to maintain the highest standard of delivery quality education to the students” he emphasized.

The VC also affirmed that it is possible to get quality of education you get overseas here in Nigeria.
