Former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has been sworn in as new Chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC).

Arase was sworn in on Wednesday by President Muhammadu Buhari and took his oath of office at the council chamber of the Presidential villa in Abuja shortly before commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

The former IGP was confirmed by the Senate as chairman of the commission about two months ago.

Arase retired from the Police Force in 2016. He was the 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police (IGP) between April 2015 and June 2016, and has served in various capacities including as head of the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, the foremost intelligence-gathering unit of the Nigeria Police.

After he was sworn in, he promised to prioritise the welfare of officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force as well as tackle corruption and the recurring issues between the IGP and the PSC.
