The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has extended the deadline for the conclusion of political party primaries for local government election in the state.

EDSIEC, in a press release on Tuesday, 14 March 2023, said the decision was in view of the shift of the date of the governorship and House of Assembly elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which made the earlier deadline of 15 March no longer feasible.

The commission did not, however, announce a new deadline but said it would be announced in due course.

The release, signed by S. A. Osayande, administrative secretary, for chairman, said, “This is to inform the General public especially political stakeholders that pursuant to the meeting held today by the Management of EDSIEC to discuss the revised Time Table for the May 6th 2023 local government elections, the following resolutions were made:

“That in view of the shift of the date of the Governorship and the House of Assembly Elections from 11th March to 18th March 2023, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the 15th March 2023 earlier fixed for the conclusion of Political Parties Primaries is no longer feasible.

“That there is, therefore, a need to shift the deadline forward.

“A new date for the conclusion of Political Parties Primaries would be announced in due course.”
