Seyi Makinde, incumbent governor of Oyo State, who is running for re-election on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), has amassed an unassailable lead in the election which took place on Saturday.

Makinde is expected to defeat Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Adebayo Adelabu of the Accord Party to win the election.

He secured victory in 31 of the 33 LGAs in the state, while the APC won two Local Government Areas, the Cable News reports.

In total, Makinde secured 563,617 votes, while Teslim had 251,230 and Adelabu polled 38,757.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to declare him the winner imminently.

The returning officer for the governorship election has declared a 20-minute break before the declaration of the final result.
