……. Chukwuamaka’s penalty denies Edo Queens away point in Lokoja.

Newly Crowned Edo FA Cup Champions Edo Queens Football Club of Benin on Wednesday evening suffered a 2-1 defeat to Confluence Queens FC of Lokoja in an NWFL Week10 match played at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium, Kogi State.

The game started with free flow style of play from both teams, leading to Peter Martha opening scoring for the home side in 15 minutes of play through a goalmouth scramble when Edo Queens goalkeeper Nkiruka Obidinma, attempt to get hold of a close-range shot from the opponent was not good enough.

The tension-soaked game continued with both teams launching a series of astonishing attacks on each other’s goal putting pressure on the home side which resulted in an infringement against Confluence Queens defender as she hacked down Esther Chioma, at the right flank of the corner kick.

Edo Queens’ prolific left winger, Rebecca Ajimuda, stepped forward to take the sublime free kick that gave the visitors the leveler to leave the score line at 1-1 at exactly the 45th minute of play.

Both teams resumed the second half fighting hard to get a winning goal which did not come until nine minutes to regulation time when the host team got a penalty as the ball rolled into the left hand of Edo Queens defender, Omowumi Oshobukola, right inside the box which the center referee promptly spotted and awarded the penalty to the host team.

Chukwuamaka Isigwe did not make any mistake
in beating Goalkeeper Nkiruka Obidinma to get the winning goal in the 81st minute.

The last impressive run made by Yetunde Fajobi, which would have given Edo Queens the equalizer after beating goalkeeper Echefu Silvia of Confluence Queens was lost due to anxiety.

With this painful loss to Confluence Queens FC, Edo Queens FC is now 3rd in Group B with 15 points from eight matches.

Edo Queens will host the current Group B leaders, FC Robo of Lagos, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City next week Wednesday.
