The Delta State Commissioner for Women Affairs Flora Alatan, has urged women to acquire Information Communication Technology skills to keep pace with modern economic and social trends.
Alatan made the call in Asaba, during the event to celebrate the 2023 International Women’s Day, with the theme: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.


The lnternational Women’s Day is a United Nations recognized event celebrated on the 8th of March every year to highlight specific issues affecting women and to celebrate the women folk.

Alatan noted that the theme of this year’s event was a clarion call for women and girls to improve their knowledge of the use and application of ICT to solve societal problems.

She emphasized “I want to appeal to our women to embrace it (ICT), so that we can flow with the global market; flow with the global system.”

The chairperson, Delta State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ Comrade Sonia Onubunjo, also made observations on the need for women to embrace trends in Information Commutation Technology.

The Resource Person Chief Shimite Bello, urged women to take interest in ICT sectors such as Financial Technology, Communication Technology, and Political Technology which they could apply in their businesses, upbringing of children and political participation.

She observed “When they brought the redesign of naira notes, I saw queues with people trying to get the (banking) app, so where you like it or not.”

Representatives of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA; a non-governmental organization, StandUp for Women Society, and personnel of other women professional organizations attended the 2023 Women’s Day Celebration .
