The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Delta (UNIDEL) in Agbor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, has charged staff of the university to be ICT driven.

Prof Chiemeke stated this during the closing ceremony of the Advanced Digital Empowerment Programme for Tertiary Institution, organised by the Digital Bridge Institute, the training arm of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), at Agbor.

According to the VC, represented by the Librarian of the university, Dr. Vera Okonoko, the exercise would, among other benefits, enhance efficiency and productivity of the staff of the institution.

“The need to be ICT compliant and in conformity with international best practices was among the reasons for embarking on this training. We are poised for excellence; hence, we must put things in place to achieve the envisaged goals,” she stated.

The one-week training programme was of two categories on Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) and the Microsoft Power Business Intelligence (PowerBI) and Internet Office Productivity Tools (IOPT).

They both covered fundamentals of Computing, ICT in Education, Cyber Security, Emerging Technologies, Information Security, Computer Security, Microsoft Office Suites: Word Processing, Electronic Spreadsheet, Data/Information Presentation and Internet Browsing.

In her remarks, the director of the programme, Dr. Clara Moemeke, commended the VC and the management of the university for providing a conducive learning environment in the institution.

She also thanked the NCC, the DBI, the lead facilitators and the participants for their various contributions in making the programme a success.

Speaking to newsmen, one of the lead facilitators, Dr. Ewere Nwali, also thanked the VC, the management and the participants for creating an enabling learning environment during the programme.

Also speaking, Egwuenu, a participant, disclosed that she was exposed to a lot of information through the programme.

According to her, “the quality of instruction was high. This training will enhance efficiency and productivity in the discharge of our duties.”
