A group within the Kogi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress identified as Ijumu APC Progressive Minds has asked the Ijumu Local Government Area part of the party to commence expulsion proceedings against Senator Smart Adeyemi.

The group said Senator Adeyemi who was one of the governorship aspirants in the last Friday party primary has become cancerous to the party, and so, be weeded out. The group says Senator Adeyemi is contesting the outcome of a governorship primary that was the fairest and the freest ever.

It commended the governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state-led electoral committee for entrenching what they call standard process devoid of rancour and violence.

“After his ill-fated failure in the 2015 election where he was washed away by the Buhari hurricane: it was the governor that rehabilitated the political destitute called Smart Adeyemi and brought his political career back to life. We warned the governor then about our son that he is a snake, that no matter how good you are to him, he will bite you. That is exactly what Senator Smart Adeyemi is doing now,” president of the group, Kamaldeen Toyin said during a press conference in Lokoja on Wednesday.

The group said Adeyemi’s hostility towards the state governor Yahaya Bello was in line with his character of paying good with evil.

“He has made every of his helper regret their benevolence,” his party men said.

The serving Senator Adeyemi, despite being from Ijumu Local Government Area, lost to Ahmed Usman Ododo, the governor’s preferred candidate and winner of the election.

The group said Adeyemi’s failure at the party polls was a referendum performance on his third term.

“It is therefore not expected that the fairly beaten child is crying.

“We wish to call on the leadership of our party to investigate how non-members of the APC were hurriedly given membership cards strongly suspected to be fake. They could give fake cards, but they couldn’t fabricate payment of dues for them. It is therefore ludicrous to display wanton desperation and falsehood that the process was faulty,” the APC members said.

Adeyemi had rejected the outcome of the election, describing it as rape of democracy and a demonstration of the governor’s insensitivity to the diverse nature of the state in line with equity, fair representation and equality.
