BayelsaPRIME, a core state-wide basic education reform programme of the Bayelsa State Government, has launched “Let’s Mark,” an initiative aimed at transforming the assessment and performance evaluation of pupils in public primary schools.

The initiative is a computer-based script-marking system which has ushered in an era of accuracy, efficiency, and
transparency in assessment of pupils across schools.

The platform uses advanced algorithms and machine learning to analyse pupil’s performance data thereby providing teachers and school leaders with detailed insights into each pupil’s strengths and weaknesses.

The data gathered enable teachers to tailor their instruction to the needs of each pupil, ensuring that every child receives the support they need to succeed.

Speaking on the initiative, a teacher with Model Primary School, Biogbolo Primary School, Tebesengha Ebisuobo noted that, “Let’s Mark has made the script marking process more seamless, however teachers that are not attuned with technology need more clarity to effectively use the system.”

In addition to its benefits derivable from the assessment and performance evaluation of pupils, Let’s Mark is also aimed at improving the overall efficiency of the assessment process. By automating the marking of scripts, the platform frees up teachers’ time, allowing them to focus on other essential tasks such as supports for pupils.

Having been implemented in 222 schools across four local government areas in Bayelsa State, the BayelsaPRIME programme launched by Governor Douye Diri has led to the introduction of more efficient methods of classroom and school management.
