The Oyo State management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has clarified that Ukanwa Ikechukwu, who is currently on trial for defrauding police officers, is an ex-corps member who passed out of the Service in February 2023.
In a message signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Edy Megwa, and made available via its Twitter handle, the Service said the said ex-corps member collected the sum of N235,000 to purchase a physiotherapy machine for a woman at the police clinic where he was serving but failed to get the machine.
Megwa further added that every attempt made by the woman to get a refund of her money from this ex-corps member proved abortive, therefore she decided to charge him to court for a criminal offence.
While advising all corps members to be law-abiding during the service, Megwa stated that the NYSC uniform is not immunity against any form of criminality as the law of the federation applies to everybody.
He, therefore, admonished all corps members to be of good behaviour and adhere strictly to the core value of the NYSC scheme in all their transactions.
