Tricycle (Keke) operators and motorcycle (Okada) riders in Ika Land have been jubilating following the stoppage of daily collection of all forms of levies from them.

The state governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi OKowa, had directed all the chairmen in the 25 local government areas of the state to ensure the enforcement of the stoppage as announced by him.

Some of the commercial motorcycle riders who spoke to newsmen noted that for more than three decades, they were compelled to pay different levies.

According to one Mr. Isioma Okus, whatever prompted Governor Okowa to stop the collection of levies was laudable because it was burdensome for them paying for the multiple tickets.

A statement signed by the Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government Council, Hon. Victor Ebonka, said, “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly the residents of Ika North-East, that in line with the directives of His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Local Government Council has approved the stoppage of all forms of levies from the tricycles and motorcycles riders in the local government area.

“Consequently, tricycles and motorcycles riders in Ika North-East Constituency are by this notice advised not to pay any any form of levies for tickets to any person or group of persons until further notice.

“It is expedient to note that any person or group of persons caught violating this order will be made to face the wrath of the law.”
