Majority leader in the House of Representatives Alhassan Ado Doguwa who is facing murder charges has been declared winner of the supplementary election in his Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal constituency of Kano.

He is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Police had charged Doguwa to court for allegedly killing three in a politically related incident within the state. He is currently on a N500 million bail that was granted by a Federal High Court in Kano.

According to the poll results that were declared on Saturday, Doguwa polled 41,573 to defeat his major challenger, Yushau Salisu of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), who scored 34,831 votes.

Professor Sani Ibrahim was the returning officer for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the supplementary election on Saturday.

His election was put on hold after INEC said the announcement of winner in the February 25 Federal Parliamentary Election was done under duress, a reason it cited for withdrawing his certificate of return.
