Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has directed that the rebuilding of the fence of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent camp, Okada, destroyed by heavy rainfall recently should commence.
The Commissioner for Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Andrew Emwanta Esq. JP, disclosed this during a visit to assess the damage done by the rainfall at the NYSC permanent camp in Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area, Edo State.

According to the Commissioner, the State Governor gave a directive that assessment of the damage on the fence caused by the heavy rainfall at the NYSC permanent camp should be embarked upon by the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Area Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC) with a view to commencing work immediately.

The Commissioner who was accompanied by a team of Engineers from EDSOGPADEC, led by Prince Iduozee, were informed that the erosion caused by the heavy rainfall swept through a section of the front and back fence on Tuesday evening.

The State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Oladeinde Foluke, took the Commissioner and the delegation round the destroyed fence and it was observed that there was no channel to take the water out and this led to the erosion that collapsed the fence.

Accompanied by the Personal Assistant, Waheed Ozeto, and the Zonal Inspector, Egor Zone, Nosa Ogbogodo, the NYSC Coordinator said this is the second time the Fence has been destroyed at the same place by the erosion after heavy down pour.

After assessing the extent of damage caused by the rainfall, it was noted that there will be proposal for both short term and long term to be able to channel the water properly.

Commissioner disclosed that he would liaise with the Permanent Secretary of EDSOGPADEC as directed by Mr. Governor to ensure that the fence rebuilding work commence immediately.

The Commissioner also visited the office of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to commend the police for providing security at the camp, as well as to solicit for more support until the building of the fence is completed.
