The need for collaborative efforts in tackling all forms of corruption in the society in order to make life more meaningful has been brought to the fore.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FERUK Humanitarian Foundation, Amb. Okoro Aghe Anthonia, stated this in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State during a public seminar, organised by the foundation.

The theme of the seminar is “Redefining Humanitarian Intervention, Speaking the Truth to Ourselves”.

Amb. Okoro said that the seminar was designed to sensitise Deltans and other Nigerians on the negative effects of corruption and the need to shun it.

She called on government at all levels and all individuals to embrace humanitarian services so that citizens, especially the needy, could be supported to live a better life, adding that the activities of the organisation cut across the grassroots.

Earlier in their lecture presentations, the Founder of MODIBBO Peace Initiative, Dr. Longji Dambok, and the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIRP), Delta State Chapter, Mrs. Florence Nwabuonwu, identified humanitarian gestures as contributing to the sustenance of humanity.

While urging Nigerians to have empathy for one another and render assistance to the needy, she frowned at the alarming rate of prostitution and drug addiction among the youths.

Nwabuonwu specifically charged women to be confident, radiate unity of purpose and harness their potentials effectively, even as she advocated for the empowerment of women.

In his presentation on civil servants as an instrument in fighting corruption, an assistant director in the Delta State Ministry of Finance, Mr. Jude Iduwe, said civil servants had been instrumental in the formulation and implementation of the policies of government.

Mr. Iduwe stated that it was incumbent on every civil servant to guide public office holders aright in the procedures for accessing funds, such that due process would be adhered to, stressing that civil servants should checkmate corruption in the system.

Also speaking, a banker and humanitarian advocate, Dr. Ameer Lukeman Haruna, harped on relevant tips to effect change, saying that volunteering spirit by individuals was important for the positive transformation of the society.

He harped on the need for every individual to utilise their skills and knowledge for the overall benefits of others, visit the sick in the hospital and make donations, no matter how small, as well as ensure environmental sustainability through planting of trees to combat climate change.
