Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has been commended for bringing professionalism into public service which helped in achieving efficiency in service delivery with the full integration of human capacity development to drive developmental policies in the Edo State public service.

Prof. Olusoji George, professor of organizational behaviour at the University of Lagos, and leading consultant at MACTA , a reputable consulting agency in human resource development responsible for the 3-day training of public and civil service officials in the state, made the commendation on Thursday in an interview with The Nigerian Observer at the end of the 3-day management training for senior civil servants, directors and permanent secretary, held at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy in Benin City.

He said that Governor. Obaseki brought the private-sector mentally into the public sector which according to him has raised the standard practice in public service in the state to international standard which has helped to increase productivity and efficiency in the public service.

Speaking further, Prof. Olusoji maintained that the record of excellence in Edo public service rated as the best in the country was the result of the massive investment efforts by the Obaseki-led administration in capacity building and human resource development to encourage and promote professionalism in the Edo public service.

He said, “The governor understands the concept of human capital development as the tools required to drive and promote developmental management in public service.

“I was impressed with what I found at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) which is not a Nigerian standard but of the international standard. I was impressed to know that most of the directors and permanent secretaries here for the 3-day training are doctorate degree holders who have the requisite skills in management delivered to help them function effectively both in work places and at their respective homes,” Prof. Olusoji added.

The professor of strategic human resources development further said that all the directors and permanent secretaries including other trainees were professionally and educationally equipped with management skills to head their respective ministries, departments and agencies.
