Adamawa State governor and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded governorship election, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has been declared winner of the election.

Professor Mohammed Mele, the returning officer for the election, declared Fintiri winner of the election on Tuesday.

Fintiri polled 430,869 to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aishatu Binani, who scored 398,788 votes in what has turned out to be Nigeria’s most controversial election in recent history.

Senator Binani had been illegally declared winner of the supplementary election by the now-suspended resident electoral commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hudu Ari, an announcement that was immediately nullified by the commission from Abuja.

Binani filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja seeking validation of her illegal declaration as governor-elect of Adamawa State.
