Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has been nominated recipient of Nigeria’s Sports Governors Merit Award 2022, clinching the Best Sports Performing Deputy Governor.
The organisers of the award, the Nigeria Sports Philanthropists Award, Nigeria Sports Governors’ Merit Award 2023, Federal Ministry of Sports & Youth Development, Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and Society for Promotion of Sports, in a statement said the nomination of the Deputy Governor was “in recognition of your unprecedented lnvestments and Achievements in Sports Development in Edo State”.
The Award investiture and dinner will be held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in FCT-Abuja, on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 6.00 pm.
The Honourable Minister, Ministry of Sports & Youth Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, and Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, will be host and co-host of the event.
Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd.), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), will be the key-note speaker at the investiture ceremony.
Recall that the Board of Editors and Management of Sun Newspapers voted Rt.Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu Sun Newspapers Sports Personality of the Year 2020 for his uncommon contributions to sports development in Edo State. The prestigious award was conferred on him at a colourful ceremony held at the Expo Hall of Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
