The Chairman of Ika North East Local Government Council, Hon. Victor Ebonka, has charged residents on the need to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the locality.

Ebonka gave the charge while supervising the clearing of road shoulders and evacuation of blocked drains in Boji-Boji Owa and environs.

According to him, this exercise was a part of conscious effort to avert environmental threats associated with flooding.

“We will continue to ensure the clearing of road shoulders and evacuation of blocked drains within Boji-Boji and neighbouring communities,” he said.

The council chairman, who is the state ALGON Chairman, urged residents to develop the habit of keeping their surroundings clean.

While educating residents on the dangers associated with flooding and other environmental hazards, the council boss appealed to residents of the council to desist from actions which pose threat to lives and the environment.

“By now people should be tired and ashamed of disposing their wastes on gutters, road shoulders and undeveloped properties because to have your rubbish taken care is affordable in the locality,” he argued.

He maintained that government will continue to see to the wellbeing of the people, adding that necessary sanctions would be meted on those sabotaging government efforts.
