Edo State government has reaffirmed its commitment to building the capacity of civil servants in the state for effective service delivery.

The State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq., made this known when he received members of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Edo State Chapter, in his office at Government House, Benin City.

The Head of Service told the visiting union that the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration has constantly put measures in place to encourage and promote the growth and productivity of every Edo worker.

Reassuring of government’s commitments to effective service delivery, Okungbowa highlighted some of the achievements in the reform efforts of the governor to include the implementation of the N40,000 minimum wage, prompt and regular payment of salaries, conducive workplace in addition to the recent approval of the 13th month salary for Edo workers at a time several other states struggle to meet their salary obligations to their workers.

“I must say without any fear of contradiction that the Edo public service is the best in Nigeria. We owe all of that to the vision of His Excellency the Governor. He leads the way and we just follow,” Okungbowa said.

“Because of the governor’s commitment to the welfare of Edo workers, all these have been achieved at a time some state governments are unable to pay the N30,000 minimum wage.

“Mr. Governor has constantly put measures in place to ensure that the civil/public service which is the engine of government is strengthened,” he said.

Also, the HoS said the Governor has put measures in place to ensure that every student of Edo extraction who graduates with a first class is automatically brought into service as part of measures to populate the service with quality manpower.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of ANAN, Edo State chapter, Mr. Austin Odigie, said they were in the HoS office to acquaint him with their activities and programmes and also to inform him that Edo State will be hosting the yearly ANAN Mandatory Continuous Professional Development (MCPD) Conference and appealed for support.

The visitors pledged their unalloyed support to the Obaseki administration’s reform programmes and sued for their sustenance, particularly the Human Capacity Development which is a major component of the reforms.
