The Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has joined other prominent Nigerians in pleading with the UK government to show leniency with former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who’s awaiting the verdict of the court on organ harvesting.

This was contained in a statement signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols of NIDCOM in Abuja and made available via NIDCOM’s Twitter handle.

Dabiri-Erewa pleaded with the court to show compassion and sympathy in the case as this will ease the psychological trauma that Sonia, Ekweremadu’s daughter, would be going through as a result of the actions of her parents which were meant to save her from her health condition.

“I join men and women of goodwill to plead for clemency for Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, if only even considering the psychological trauma Sonia, the daughter, would be going through knowing that her parents are in jail because they tried to save her from a health condition she had no control over,” Dabiri-Erewa pleaded.

She implored the UK government to temper justice with mercy, admitting that “mistakes have been made, and lessons learned”.

The NIDCOM boss said though there is no ignorance before the law, Ekweremadu and his wife acted under their parental instincts to save an ailing daughter, and not for commercial purposes.
