A young man, Gift Ofuje, has been shot dead near Eko Amukpe in Sapele, Delta State. Ofuje was found lying on the ground from gunshot wounds near a white coloured vehicle he was said to be cruising in.

A source at the Sapele Police Station, who craved anonymity, said the death of the 27-year-old was as a result of a targeted hit they described as “a gang-style shooting.”

He was reported to have been shot in the head around 8.40 p.m. at night according to the source. The police source said that Ofuje’s death was as a result of Yahoo business gone wrong.

“Gift was not the owner of the car; the owner of the vehicle sent the late Gift to drop a friend at Midwifery Road, and he was reversing the car when gunmen attacked and shot him dead,” the source explained.

All attempts to speak to the Delta State Police Command spokesman, Bright Edafe was not successful as at the time of filling this report.

In a related development, it has become a norm in Warri and Effurun metropolis to be on alert when boarding public tricycles as the level of crime perpetrated have been on the rise recently.

A victim, Miss Oke, lamented over how a tricycle driver robbed her of her belongings at Upper Erejuwa Road in Warri South Local Government Area.

The victim who was vividly shivering while narrating her experience to journalists, explained how she went to visit her friend in the above-mentioned area and decided to take a tricycle back home.

Her friend, who accompanied her, was however fast to flee on sighting an occupant in the tricycle they had stopped, pointing a gun at them.

“I was in shock and couldn’t move for fear of being shot. Though they succeeded in carting away my belongings which included some money and an expensive human hair weavon that I just bought, I am grateful to God that I was not kidnapped or shot,” she stated.

She added that a few weeks ago, her cousin who sells at Igbudu Market in Warri, got kidnapped and had not returned home even after a ransom of N1.5 million was paid.

Miss Oke called on the public and security agents to be more alert, saying that the perpetrators seemed to have their way easily.
