Taiwo Awoniyi was again the hero for Nottingham Forest as the home side secured their Premier League safety with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Arsenal.

For The Gunners, the defeat ensured that Manchester City are the Premier League champions yet again with Arsenal unable to catch them with a game remaining, Eurosport reports.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s winning goal ended Arsenal’s Premier League title dreams and ensured survival for Nottingham Forest, as they eased their relegation worries following a 1-0 win against Arsenal in front of the delighted home fans at the City Ground.

The only goal of the game by Awoniyi came after 19 minutes and had a touch of fortune about it.

According to Daily Post, the Nigeria international met Morgan Gibbs-White’s pass and slotted the ball past Aaron Ramsdale.

The 25-year-old made history as the first Nottingham Forest player to score in three consecutive league games.

He scored a brace each in Steve Cooper’s previous two games Southampton and Chelsea.

Awoniyi has now scored 10 goals and recorded one assist in 26 league appearances for the Reds this season.

The striker was replaced by Brennan Johnson 11 minutes from time.

Arsenal are now four points behind Manchester City with a game remaining, while Forest are seven clear of second-bottom Leicester and four ahead of Everton, who only have one game left.

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has reflected on the end of their Premier League title chase on Saturday.

The Gunners’ 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest means Manchester City have been confirmed champions before their game on Sunday against Chelsea.

Arteta admits it has been “difficult in the last weeks” as they collapsed in the run-in.

“We have transformed a lot at this club, we have made huge steps, but the icing on the cake is to win a championship and we fell short.

“It has been difficult in the last few weeks. We need the team with everyone at their best in April and May, and that hasn’t happened.

“It is painful today, it will be tomorrow but we have to give our fans the performance they deserve next week,” Arteta told BBC.

In all, Manchester City were on Saturday crowned the champions of England for the 2022/2023 season.

Pep Guardiola’s men have now won it for the third consecutive year, following Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

It is the ninth title City have won in their history, and they are now level with Everton.

However, their city rivals Manchester United still have the most titles (20), followed by Liverpool (19).
