Afrobeat singer and saxophonist, Seun Kuti has finally been released from police custody.

Kuti was detained after submitting himself to police following allegations that he had assaulted a police officer last weekend.

Video footage trended on social media of the musician purportedly slapping a police officer.

The presiding magistrate in the matter, Adeola Olatunbosun, failed to show up at the Yaba Chief Magistrates Court in Lagos Tuesday, for undisclosed reasons.

Later in the day, police sources said Kuti was released after meeting bail conditions.

Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN) Kuti’s attorney, said the musician was released Tuesday night.

Kuti is expected in court Wednesday.
