Nigerian wrestlers who participated at the just concluded African Senior Wrestling Championships in Hammamet, Tunisia, were praised for their excellent outing by the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare.

The Nigerian team proudly represented their mother land clinching a total of 15 medals, namely; nine gold, four silver and two bronze.

Amazingly, the Nigerian women contigent led by Blessing Oborududu recovered the top spot on the continent that they lost to Tunisia at the preceding tournament held in Casablanca, Morocco.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that in Dare’s commendation speech, he charged the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) led by former Olympic champion, Daniel Igali, to maintain the determination and sustain the progressive energy.

“The Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development is proud of what you have done and wants you to keep this progressive momentum going.

“Sustaining this momentum will ensure that wrestling can get Nigeria on the podium again at the 2024 Olympics in Paris as was the case at Tokyo 2020,” Dare said.
