Before Wednesday night, seven countries, namely, holders Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, South Africa, Morocco, and Burkina Faso have already joined hosts Ivory Coast in the confirmed list for the tournament which kicks off January 2024.

The Pharaohs secured their spot in the 24-team competition with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Guinea in Marrakesh on Wednesday. Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Ahmed scored and provided an assist as Egypt qualified for the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). With this win, Egypt will be making its 26th appearance at the AFCON.

In total, eight teams have now qualified for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The victory saw Egypt move to 12 points after five rounds of matches, and have an unassailable lead of nine points to the third-placed team with one round of qualification matches left to play.

However, Saturday will see a further seven qualifiers played in the penultimate round of matches.
