Sokoto town, capital of Sokoto State has become charged with unease, following the lynching of a butcher, Usman Buda,Sunday, for alleged blasphemy.

Buda, who was attacked by a mob and later died, was suspected to be emotionally unstable.

Responding swiftly, the police have intervened, launching an investigation into the incident and a search for the those responsible.

Ali Hayatu Kaigama, Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, assured the public that the situation was under control and urged citizens to go about their normal activities without fear.

Furthermore, Ahmed Rufai, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), the Acting Police Public Relations Officer for Sokoto State, who confirmed the lynching, said, “ Following the alleged act of blasphemy against the Holy Prophet Muhammad, Usman Buda, a resident of Gwnadu LGA, and a butcher at Sokoto Abbatoir, was attacked by a group of Muslim individuals, resulting in severe injuries.Rufai further explained that on receiving the distress call, the Commissioner of Police, along with the Area Commander, Metro, DPO Kwani, promptly despatched a team of officers to the team to restore order.

“On their arrival, the mob had dispersed, leaving the victim unconscious. He was immediately rescued and taken to the Usumanu Danfodio University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) for medical treatment. Tragically, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital,” Rufai added. At present, I can confirm that the situation is under control. Our investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice is served,” Rufai said.
