Grammy award-winning Nigerian Afrobeats singer Burna Boy on Sunday won the award for the Best International Act at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) awards held at the Microsoft Theater, California, USA.

He was nominated in four categories, including Video Director of the Year, Viewers Choice, Male R&B/Pop Artist, and Best international Act. He went ahead to win in the Best international Act category.

The award makes it the African Giant’s fourth win in total at the BET awards.

For the “Last Last” crooner’s fans and music lovers in general who have paid keen attention, this award comes as no surprise, and the reasons are simple.

Burna Boy’s album “Love Damini” is doing great numbers as it topped charts in different countries, like in the United Kingdom where it peaked at number 2 in albums chart, the United States where it also peaked at number 2 at the Billboard World albums chart, and in Nigeria where it occupied the number 1 spot in the Apple Music charts.

Burna sold out shows in the UK, where he became the first African act to headline and sell out a stadium there. He also headlined the kick-off show at the European Champions League.

Another Nigerian artiste, Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, also won the Best Collaboration category for her feature on “Wait For U” with Future and Drake.

However, Asake lost the Best New International Act category to Libianca.

What was a dazzling night for Nigerian stars was rounded off with an electrifying performance by the award-winning star Davido, who thrilled attendees with songs from his recent album.
