Tireless in executing the job creation drive, Edo State Government through Edojobs upskilled over 500 Edo residents on various high-impact skills across technology, employability, and vocational development.

The months of April and May saw a great commitment to the development of the state’s greatest resource (its people), as a result of several Edojobs initiatives ranging from upskilling self-employed and employees of organizations on technology tools to adopt for greater effectiveness, to training graduates intensively to be best positioned for career success, and conducting various vocational skills trainings in different parts of the state.

Mr. Jude Osezua Onagbedan, a beneficiary of a Computer Appreciation Training that was held in April, remarked that the training, “For those of us who work in organizations, we go to our colleagues who are tech savvy to help us upload files, connect us to Zoom meetings, and all that. But after today, we don’t need to go to our colleagues anymore. There are lots we can do by ourselves because of this training. Apart from having the certificate we have the knowledge.”

The training which was organized by the Job Matching and Placement unit of Edojobs in collaboration with its technology unit, Edo Innovates, was a response to the need to bring the Computer Appreciation Training which normally holds at the Edo Innovation Hub, closer to residents of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area (LGA). The training came to an end on the 5th of May with the participants glad to have taken advantage of the opportunity.

Another Computer Appreciation Training kicked off on the 8th of May at the Edo Innovation Hub and continued for a 3-weeks period that ended on the 26th of May.

The Computer Appreciation Training is a programme designed by Edo Innovates. The goal of the program is to take interested Edo residents, from beginners to advanced levels in Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, and Google Workspace tools, and it indeed achieved its purpose as testimonies of its impact never cease to roll in.

The impact report still unfolds; In May, the Job Matching and Placement unit of Edojobs in partnership with Poise Graduate Finishing Academy, OXFAM and WORK IN PROGRESS, trained Graduates intensively on skills they need to succeed whether as employees of an organization or as entrepreneurs. They were trained in emotional intelligence, CV writing, salient interview tips, problem-solving, goal setting, leadership, networking, work ethics, and sales techniques.

To conclude, participants of the program were grouped, and tasked to come up with innovative solutions presented in products. The value impacted by the Trainers didn’t go unrequited as they matched the expectations of their Facilitators.
The Managing Director of EdoJobs, Mrs. Violet Obiokoro, in expressing her delight at the participants’ quality demonstration of the knowledge they received during the 3-weeks of training, said, “We are a great percentage sure that they would make the Edo State Government and Edojobs proud.”

The participants were rewarded with a globally recognized certificate from the World-class Poise Graduate Finishing Academy. The Job Matching and Placement Unit of Edojobs also afforded them training support to participate in a Job fair that would get them immediate job placements.

Still, in the months of April and May, the Skills Development Unit of EdoJobs held trainings on Leather works and Fashion Designing; Catering and Event Management; Cosmetology and Soap Making; Paint Production, and Smart Home Automation in Edo South Senatorial District, Ikpoba Okha, Sapele Road, Ekpoma and Oredo respectively.

Edojobbers who were once beneficiaries of such training and are doing well for themselves with the skills they earned are pivotal to the execution of these trainings, as they give back by serving as Facilitators. Also, these trainings are primarily embarked on through collaborations with Local Government Authorities in Edo North, South and Central.

The last five (5) years for the Vocational Skills Unit of EdoJobs have witnessed the development of skills acquisition and development centres by the Edo State Government through Edojobs in partnership with the German Government (BMZ) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) across various locations in the State:

The skills acquisition and development centers include Edojobs Fashion and Style Corner at the Edo Innovates Building, Oredo Local Government Area, the EdoJobs Leatherworks factory in Ehor Uhunwonde Local Government Area and at Edo Innovates Building.

Faith Ikpiah, a beneficiary of the Cosmetology and Soap Making training held in April at Sapele road axis and environs, testified to earning already, even before the end of the training. She narrated that she had made an impressively packaged liquid soap which she sold to a neighbor.
