… the chairman, Edo State Aquatic Board urges the team to be good ambassadors in Asaba

As Team Edo Swimmers prepare to leave Benin for Asaba to participate in the National Under-18 Swimming Competition, scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, in Asaba, Delta state, the Chairman, Edo State Aquatic Board, Clement Sunday Minabowan, has urged Team Edo athletes and coaches to do the state proud by bringing honour back home.

Minabowan gave the charge on Tuesday, reminding the athletes to be true ambassadors of Edo State by remaining disciplined during the competition in Delta State.

“Go there and do Edo State proud. Be disciplined throughout and come back with medals. We are sponsoring you people to participate in the national competition because we know the importance.

“It is a qualifying event for the African Zone 2 Junior Championships taking place in Accra, Ghana, in August 2023. It is also a good opportunity to test your strength and skills after months of training. I wish you a great outing in Asaba. ” He enthused.

The former champion and Gold medalist for the defunct Bendel State expressed optimism that Edo athletes will do well at the national Under-18 competition, promising that his board will always encourage the athletes and coaches.

Speaking with journalists on Team Edo swimmers’ readiness for the competition, the head coach of Edo Aquatic Association, Coach Poland Benazimo, revealed that Edo Aquatic Association is going to the Asaba national Under-18 Swimming competition with six athletes; three boys and three girls, and two coaches.

Participating teams are expected to arrive in Asaba, Delta state on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, while the competition is scheduled to begin on Thursday, June 15, and end on Saturday, June 17.
